Release Notes
Major features:
-
AI opponent is now available with Easy and Hard difficulty. In a future update, Medium (and possibly Very Hard) will be provided. It is anticipated that the difficulty parameters will need to be fine-tuned based on player feedback.
-
A Barrel Roll sub-phase has been added at the end of the Movement phase. If either player has a Barrel Roll card in their hand they will be offered the opportunity to reposition their plane to the left or right. If both players have barrel roll cards then it is currently randomly determined who goes first. Barrel Rolling last is a big advantage as you can see whether your opponent barrel rolled before committing to your own. This potentially allows a player to dodge out of an attacker's firing arc, possibly while still being able to shoot. In the future player's will be able to make choices which modify their chance of barrel rolling last.
-
Combat now shows simple animations for: casting attack spells, damage and plane destroyed.
-
Tornadoes cause 1 HP damage if hit during movement and/or during a Barrel Roll.
-
Tornadoes and clouds now block line of sight. This is shown graphically during combat.
-
Leaving the map now forfeits the game.
-
The grey area at the edge of the map defines the edge of your patrol boundary. Ending your turn in this grey area will cause a random card to be discarded from your hand.
-
A simple Tutorial has been added in-game in the form of a Help button on the main game screen.
-
You can now access the in game menu by pressing ESC or clicking the gear icon in the bottom right of the screen. This allows you to exit a game in progress. In future you will also be able to change Settings and be reminded of Keyboard shortcuts.
Other features:
-
Movement and combat now adjust map display so as to see appropriate area around the current plane.
-
Hand of cards moved to the left of screen for improved map visibility.
-
Current player's name and plane colour are now displayed at the top of the screen when it is their turn. When both player's are expected to watch the screen the top of the screen turns blue (with a message).
-
Movement and Combat window text improved.
-
Animations added for winning.
-
To display movement for both players only one input is now required. There will be a number of additional UI improvements in the next update.
-
Countdown timer to next update added (updates will be released every 3 weeks).
-
Added option to Disable privacy boxes when opponent is "Two Players (same device)".
Balance:
The length of Straight moves has been increased.
Bugs fixed:
-
Updated map display so that planes aren't able to become impossible to see.
-
Engine noise is now audible over background music when plane moves.
-
Invalid play messages are now contained within the current phase window.
-
Immelmann and Split-S moves now show plane rotating 180 degrees in preview.
-
Added validation to card play for speed and altitude exceeding planes max. Previously this was clamped without a warning message.
-
Message shown if you are unable to shoot your opponent because you are not at the same or an adjacent altitude.
Known issues:
-
The user interface needs streamlining with less button presses. This will be done for the next update.
-
A number of the animations and icons are placeholders and will be improved over time.
-
AI plane tornado avoidance to be added.
This is an early demo and issues are bound to be encountered. Please email me with bugs and feedback. A new update will be released every 3 weeks. Thanks for playing! dave@rcformula1.com
