Release Notes
The current release is still an early demo and issues are bound to be encountered. Please email me with bugs and feedback at dave@rcformula1.com. A new update is released every 4 weeks.
Thanks for playing!
Major new features:
-
Replaced “AI Thinking” full screen with a smaller announcement at the bottom of the screen. This allows the player to see what the AI is doing. Also changed from "AI Thinking" to “Enemy Thinking”. Both changes are designed to improve player immersion.
-
Card text was hard to read. All card text has been re-written using a different editor to improve the clarity of card text. When the mouse cursor hovers over a card, the zoom has been improved by changing the way the scaling is handled and the zoomed card now appears over the top of the smaller card, which is more logical.
Other new features:
-
At end of barrel roll phase, if vs AI, proceeds to next player automatically (now you can see whether the AI barrel rolled you don’t need to see a summary of barrel rolls).
-
If neither player has a barrel roll card then the message “Neither player barrel rolled” is displayed and the combat phase commences without pause.
-
Instead of saying “Enemy has no Barrel Roll card!” it now says “Enemy did not Barrel Roll”, thereby providing less information to the player about the enemy's cards.
Bugs fixed:
-
Various minor bug fixes.
Known issues:
-
A number of the animations and icons are placeholders and will be improved over time.
- 6 March 2026
v0.3.7.0
Major new features:
-
Added Medium AI difficulty.
Other new features:
-
AI difficulties were tuned with a number of improvements to the decision making (further work is planned).
-
AI plane now avoids tornadoes.
-
Planes now have a ground shadow which is darker and better defined the lower the plane's altitude. You can therefore tell whether a plane is above or below your plane by looking at its shadow (as an alternative to mousing over the plane and reading it's altitude).
-
Added uplifting music to the post game screen if the player wins.
Playtester suggestions implemented:
-
When selecting planes, the "Enemy Plane" dropdown has been moved to the bottom of the screen.
-
Trimmed game music so loops more accurately.
Balance:
-
Forked Lightning cards in AI deck: Easy=none, Medium/Hard=1 (same as human player).
Bugs fixed:
-
Various minor bug fixes.
- 5 February 2026
v0.3.6.0
v0.3.5.1
- 8 January 2026
Major new features:
-
Added "Challenge Mode" - 5 linked battles versus the AI. Player only has 2 lives. Planes are repaired between battles. If you win a battle you may add a card to your deck.
-
Added "My Profile" - a new screen off the Main Menu - shows your stats and achievements including games played, kills achieved, wins/losses in each game mode and a progressive military rank. In future, specific achievements will also be shown and a preview of this feature is included.
Other new features:
-
At the start of each battle you are now shown who you are facing and the plane they are using.
-
New placeholder animations created for Forked Lightning and Ball Lightning attacks.
-
Added combat card images.
-
A log file is created for every game to assist with troubleshooting.
Balance:
-
No changes.
Bugs fixed:
-
Various minor bug fixes.
Major new features:
-
A major redesign of the User Interface has increased the usable area of the main game screen significantly. On screen text is more concise with less button clicks required to move through the Phases.
-
In the Planning phase, a movement preview is now displayed once a movement card is selected.
-
A choice of 3 planes is now on offer, each with different stats.
-
Jink – The new Jink card can be played in the Combat Phase to reduce incoming damage by 2 HP (played instead of attacking). This is useful if the enemy has a shot at you but they are out of your firing arc. AI does not currently have the Jink option, but it will be added in the next update. The Ball Lightning attack card ignores Jink and therefore always does 1 damage.
Other new features:
-
Where possible, the screen is centred on both planes during combat and at other times when it makes sense to do so. Further improvements in this area are planned.
-
Added a health bar for planes once they have taken damage.
-
Plane's now have an "Agility" stat and each type of plane has a different Agility. Barrel Rolling now looks at the Plane's Agility (higher Agility barrel rolls last, or if planes have the same agility then it is determined randomly).
-
Added a Table of Contents to the Help and allowed player to jump to a specific section.
-
For new players, the Upgrade Card step is now skipped and Help is opened automatically for their first game.
Balance:
Player's Deck - Removed 1 Forked Lightning card (deals 3 HP damage) so only 1 exists now in a player's deck.
Bugs fixed:
-
If a card was dragged to a card target and it snapped to that target, but the player didn't then release the left mouse button and moved the mouse away from the target, then the card moved off the target and was lost by the game (even though it was still visible wherever it was released). This has been fixed.
-
May only discard cards in the Cards Phase.
v0.3.4.0
- 18 December 2025
Major features:
-
AI opponent is now available with Easy and Hard difficulty. In a future update, Medium (and possibly Very Hard) will be provided. It is anticipated that the difficulty parameters will need to be fine-tuned based on player feedback.
-
A Barrel Roll sub-phase has been added at the end of the Movement phase. If either player has a Barrel Roll card in their hand they will be offered the opportunity to reposition their plane to the left or right. If both players have barrel roll cards then it is currently randomly determined who goes first. Barrel Rolling last is a big advantage as you can see whether your opponent barrel rolled before committing to your own. This potentially allows a player to dodge out of an attacker's firing arc, possibly while still being able to shoot. In the future player's will be able to make choices which modify their chance of barrel rolling last.
-
Combat now shows simple animations for: casting attack spells, damage and plane destroyed.
-
Tornadoes cause 1 HP damage if hit during movement and/or during a Barrel Roll.
-
Tornadoes and clouds now block line of sight. This is shown graphically during combat.
-
Leaving the map now forfeits the game.
-
The grey area at the edge of the map defines the edge of your patrol boundary. Ending your turn in this grey area will cause a random card to be discarded from your hand.
-
A simple Tutorial has been added in-game in the form of a Help button on the main game screen.
-
You can now access the in game menu by pressing ESC or clicking the gear icon in the bottom right of the screen. This allows you to exit a game in progress. In future you will also be able to change Settings and be reminded of Keyboard shortcuts.
Other features:
-
Movement and combat now adjust map display so as to see appropriate area around the current plane.
-
Hand of cards moved to the left of screen for improved map visibility.
-
Current player's name and plane colour are now displayed at the top of the screen when it is their turn. When both player's are expected to watch the screen the top of the screen turns blue (with a message).
-
Movement and Combat window text improved.
-
Animations added for winning.
-
To display movement for both players only one input is now required. There will be a number of additional UI improvements in the next update.
-
Countdown timer to next update added (updates will be released every 3 weeks).
-
Added option to Disable privacy boxes when opponent is "Two Players (same device)".
Balance:
The length of Straight moves has been increased.
Bugs fixed:
-
Updated map display so that planes aren't able to become impossible to see.
-
Engine noise is now audible over background music when plane moves.
-
Invalid play messages are now contained within the current phase window.
-
Immelmann and Split-S moves now show plane rotating 180 degrees in preview.
-
Added validation to card play for speed and altitude exceeding planes max. Previously this was clamped without a warning message.
-
Message shown if you are unable to shoot your opponent because you are not at the same or an adjacent altitude.
